The Darling Downs Takes Flight
I’m sure most of you are already aware of the massive announcement made about the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport yesterday. Qantas has jumped on board to become the first commercial airline to service Wellcamp, which is Australia’s first privately funded, public airport. Flights are scheduled to take off on November 17th & it would be an understatement to say that the region is abuzz with excitement.
Yes, it’s exciting that we can feel more connected to the rest of Australia & reduce congestion at Brisbane airport. But, this opens up Brisbane west, the Darling Downs & Surat Basin to the world with so many opportunities in tourism, freight & business. Not only this, but Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport will create hundreds, if not thousands of jobs for our people. Our region has so much to offer & now we can truly showcase it! Wellcamp has taken around 18 months to build & it is surreal to think that in the next few years, our airport could grow to the size of Newcastle or Mackay airports, servicing a million people every year.
Congratulations to the Wagners on this incredible achievement that is about to change our region in amazing ways we never knew were possible.
