An Introduction to Google Places for Business

If you have searched recently on Google, you have probably been exposed to Google Places.  The newly integrated Google Places results within your search results, means that local businesses are more likely to appear in location centric search phrases.

So when potential customers search for local information, they can find your business: your address, hours of operation and even photos of your shop front and/or products. It’s easy to set up and it’s free.

According to Google –

“We’re introducing Places Search, a new kind of local search result that organises the world’s information around places.  We’ve clustered search results around specific locations so you can more easily make comparisons and decide where to go.

The new results are marked with red pins, with relevant information and links from across the web.  Now information is grouped conveniently to make it easier to digest and compare.”

As business owners, Google Places allows you to update and manage your physical business location information, which can be used to update your business listing so that it appears correctly in Google Maps.

Your business may already show up on Google but you can verify your listing and make sure the details are accurate, up-to-date and optimised so your site ranks well.  You can also view reporting information in Google Places at any time to see how many people have seen and clicked on your listing.

So if you haven’t already done so, find your Google Places and claim your listing.
